The following recommendations, guidelines, and best practices are for in-house instructors teaching AVADE® Personal Safety Training courses. This information is not intended to supersede your agency policies and procedures, state and federal legal requirements and agency compliance requirements. It is strictly for the purpose of assisting instructors when teaching AVADE® Personal Safety Training courses.

AVADE® guidelines during COVID-19 outbreak

The AVADE® COVID-19 Guidelines are in effect during the COVID-19 outbreak and are subject to change. Interim Guidance on Certification Extensions

  • AVADE®/PSTI recognizes the extraordinary challenges with delivering in-person training during the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Please reviewAVADE®/PSTI’s following guidance below, for student and instructor certification extensions.
  • Please review AVADE®/PSTI’s separate in-person guidance documents for supplemental methods of training in accordance with the CDC recommendations.
  • The following certification extension guidance are in effect until July 1, 2020 or upon further CDC recommendations are revised and AVADE®/PSTI releases NEW training certification guidance.

Student Training Certifications

  • In cases where an agency cannot implement the recommended CDC or AVADE®/PSTI’s training precautions for in-person training; student training certification can be extended until July 1, 2020 or until new training certification guidance is issued.
  • Agencies that conduct in-person trainings in adherence with CDC or AVADE®/PSTI’s training precautions and cannot conduct all of the required skills; shall note what skills are not covered on each student’s proficiency skills test. A makeup session of skills not completed shall be tested at a later date, upon less restrictive in-person training guidance being released by the CDC or AVADE®/PSTI.
  • All normally required training documentation and submission of required training documentation is the responsibility of the certified instructor and their agency. Submit training documentation to records@personalsafetytraining.com
  • AVADE®/PSTI’s certified instructors can retrieve additional video training resources and information on their instructor portal: https://personalsafetytraining.com/member-log-in/

Instructor Training Certifications

  • In cases where a certified instructor cannot attend a scheduled AVADE®/PSTI’s instructor re-certification course; that instructor’s certification can be extended until July 1, 2020 or until new training certification guidance is issued.
  • AVADE®/PSTI’s certified instructors that have their certification expiring now until July 1, 2020, should reach out directly to AVADE®/PSTI to receive additional guidance on how to receive renewal certification.
